Report: Dolphins' Mike Pouncey subpoenaed by grand jury in Aaron Hernandez case (Shutdown Corner)
Oct 28th 2013, 00:17

Less than an hour after the New England Patriots defeated the Miami Dolphins in Massachusetts, state police served Miami's center Mike Pouncey with a subpoena related to the grand jury investigating the Aaron Hernandez case, according to a report in Sports Illustrated . Pouncey and Hernandez were teammates at the University of Florida. According to SI's source, police are seeking more information on possible interstate gun trafficking charges involving Hernandez. Per Sports Illustrated, the scene outside the Dolphins' locker room was a surreal one, with at least five uniformed state police standing near the locker room door. The scene played out thusly : After the game, two members of the Massachusetts State Police in dark suits approached Pouncey in the hallway between the Dolphins locker room and the team bus and handed him a piece of white paper. "It's about a grand jury investigation," one official could be heard telling Pouncey. The same police official later said, "Make sure you arrive." Pouncey appeared confused when handed the paperwork by police and said, "What's this about?" Soon Dolphins officials were scrambling around the concourse looking for answers. What the subpoena means is that Pouncey will be questioned in connection with the investigation. However, he may not necessarily be charged with a crime. Hernandez has been indicted on six charges, including first-degree murder and five weapons charges. The Dolphins declined comment to Sports Illustrated. Pittsburgh Steelers officials declined to tell SI whether Maurkice Pouncey, Mike's brother and also a Florida friend of Hernandez, was also served. Previously, the Pouncey brothers made news when they were photographed wearing "Free Hernandez" hats . They made statements distancing themselves from the Hernandez case afterward. ____ Jay Busbee is a contributor for Shutdown Corner on Yahoo Sports. Have a tip?
