Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper apologized when a video of him using a racial slur surfaced , San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tarell Brown hired a new agent and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees defended his tipping habits . Here's what else you may have missed: • The Denver Broncos received a scare when cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was carted off the field with a left leg injury. Fortunately for the Broncos, who lost center J.D. Walton when his ankle injury suffered a setback earlier this summer and Dan Koppen to a torn ACL earlier this week, Rodgers-Cromartie only has a sprained ankle that will keep him out a few weeks. "He has done it before, so I am not overly concerned," Broncos head coach John Fox said. "But any time a player misses time I am concerned. We will just get him healthy and get him back out there." As for the center position, the Broncos agreed to terms with veteran center/guard Ryan Lilja on Wednesday night. Lilja played Peyton Manning with the Indianapolis Colts from 2004 through 2009 and spent the last three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. • New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said the "Wildcat" is here to stay: "No, I think it's here to stay for the simple fact guys are getting these quarterbacks now, these mobile quarterbacks, (with) the size, speed and all that type of stuff, so I do think it's here to stay," said Ryan. "It does give you the numbers back. Sometimes on defense you're playing with plus-one, but it's a great equalizer and that's what I was saying when we were putting it in with Brad (Smith) and Leon Washington and (Tim) Tebow or whoever. But the other thing is you're seeing different guys do it. We had Jeremy Kerley do it, we had Brad do it. It doesn't have to be the quarterback but the fact that it is the quarterback I think is sometimes even better than having a running-back-type guy do it." • Veteran linebacker Nick Barnett had a successful workout with the Washington Redskins and was signed to a one-year deal , Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports. • Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll discussed the Percy Harvin situation with the NFL Network on Wednesday. "Percy does have a chance to get back," Carroll said. "And we'll find that out after the procedure. We'll know what took place, and then they'll make a guess on how long that will take him...But we're going to get him right, fix him up and take care of him. We made a big commitment to Percy. We want to make sure that he's 100 percent and ready to go. So we look forward to a fast recovery, and him getting back out here."
